SM3 Rail milling and grinding train

Type: Linsinger MG11

The rail milling train MG11 was specially developed for use in local public transport and metros. Due to its small dimensions, it has the advantage to fit into almost each structure gauge of the network operator. The milling machine can be flexibly adjusted with respect to the track width (a changeover work is necessary). So far it has also been possible to meet the specifications with regards to the wheel tire profile to be applied.

The rail milling train is operated by a team of three, who also prepares the machine for night-shift operation in daily maintenance.

The transport takes place with a low-loader and the machine can be rerailed via a ramp. The milling of the rail is possible for both types of rail, for the vignol type and for the grooved rail, for which s-milling has designed a special milling wheel in cooperation with the manufacturer Linsinger.

The area of application is for metros and local public transport networks of European countries. The SM3 (built in 2016) has so far worked for the Rhaetian Railway (Switzerland), GVB (Amsterdam), RET (Rotterdam) and RNV Mannheim, as well as in the network of other local transport companies in Germany. For each project the approvals, certifications and acceptances were granted individually before use.
